Local radio show sets its sights on inspiration, hope

By CHRISTINA CHANES NYSTROM, CORRESPONDENT

Jennetta Harris has a calling and she's spreading the word.

The Pomona Edison employee and community activist is involved in many service organizations in the Inland Empire and as an ordained evangelist, she uses faith as a backdrop to get out the message that with the Lord, anything is possible.

She spreads the word through a Sunday radio show, "Joy Ministries," which helps her reach others seeking an understanding of the Lord.

She records her show at Eclectica Studios in Montclair each Thursday and then takes it to the K-SPA radio offices in Rancho Cucamonga, where it is played Sunday mornings.

"I enjoy having my show on K-SPA 1510 because it reaches a wide range of people," said Harris. "The station programming is geared towards a mature audience and so, for me, it's the perfect place to be."

Harris began her radio ministry in February. She believes that sending out a message of hope to those in a place of despair is not only important but it's what the Lord wants her to do.

"I'm just a vessel for the Lord," she said. "What started from a small Bible study group in my neighborhood has blossomed into a weekend radio show.

"I believe that it's a good thing to be able to do this," said Harris. "I enjoy reaching out to the many lost souls out there who need to know they are loved and cared for by the Lord."

She also said that without the comfort the Lord offers, the world would be filled with those who are discouraged.

"My goal is simply to help others," said Harris. "To serve the Lord and to fulfill my calling as asked by the Lord to do."

K-SPA radio staff called Harris is an asset to their programming schedule, saying that what she offers is positive and helpful to station listeners."

A lot of people want to be on a radio program like this because you reach so many different people," said K-SPA radio spokesman Bernard Harrison. "Jennetta's show is powerful because she is not only dynamic, but she's also a very brave and extremely passionate speaker."

K-SPA programming serves mature audiences by offering religion, big band music and sports radio.

"She's real, true and she's motivational in a biblical sense," said Harrison. "She's raised the standard because she's so good at what she does. People want to look up to heroes and she's a hero in my book."

Harris said she is grateful to those who listen to her show and to those in the industry who support her.

"Teaching the lessons in the Bible and sharing inspirational messages with others is a gift," said Harris. "I truly want people to know the Lord loves them and is there for them daily -- that's what I try to share with those who listen in on my Sunday morning show."

Joy Ministries, radio show on KSPA 1510 AM When: Sunday Mornings 8:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
